How To Make The Perfect Hearty Stew




A hearty stew is a great way to incorporate a variety of tasty ingredients. Potatoes and meat are always a must when making stew in our book. However, since this is your home you can make it however your heart desires!




This stew can be made on the stove top, in a crock pot, in the oven, or over a fire. We most often choose the stovetop out of convenience. However, over a fire or in a Dutch oven is always great when camping!



These are the ingredients you will need:  

1.5 pounds stew meat diced (or your preferred cut of beef, pork or lamb)

Carrots chopped, one per person

5 stocks celery chopped

2 yellow onions diced

2 large or 4 small cloves of garlic

1/2-1 potato per person chopped

2-3 tablespoons olive oil

1/2 cup white all-purpose flour

Salt and Pepper to taste

4 tablespoons tomato sauce

1/4 teaspoon thyme

1/2 teaspoon oregano

Dash of basil

Water

Cooking time!

In a mixing bowl, add the flour and herbs and mix in the meat cubes. Set the mixture aside. In a large sauce pan warm the olive oil and sauté the onion and garlic until they are slightly browned and the onion begin to become transparent. Add the meat and flour mixture and continue to sauté for about 1-2 minutes. Make sure it doesn't burn. Now add the remaining ingredients. Cover the ingredients with water leaving about 1 inch of space from the top to prevent it from overflowing. Bring it to a boil and then turn the heat down to allow the stew to simmer until the carrots and potatoes are soft or to your liking. Serve hot with some fresh bread.
